I have a 2000 Excursion, limited V10 4x4. Today it rained all day, I got in it and the radio worked fine, put it in Reverse no sound out of the radio, in neutral radio works, drive no sound again. I put in a CD while going down the road. The cd plays as I see the track changing but no sound. If I slip it into neutral then I get sound. I searched the forums and found almost the same problem someone had on a 2000 expedition. A response indicated that the windshield leaks on the expedition and leads to the GEM module and sometimes the whole fuse panel needing replacement.
Anyone have this problem on the excursions? and what is the GEM module?
Or anyone have any other ideas?
Yes, this problem happens with the F series trucks, Excursions and Expeditions. You need to replace the GEM module along with the fuse box. Both units bolt together and suffer from corrosion due to a windshield leak. Have your windshield sealed on the drivers side bottom, along the cowl, then you need to replace the GEM and fuse panel. You will need to take the vehicle to a dealer to have this repair done because the GEM needs to be programmed for your vehicle. We, the dealer, have to download the old GEM information into a scann tool, then replace the GEM with the new one, then upload the information to the new GEM. GEM also controls lighting, 4x4 operation etc.
Hope this helps.
