how about that a 51 f1 followed me home yesterday flat head v8 stuck tight i was told to pour mystery oil in plug holes my question is ,is mystery oil better than pb blaster what do you suggest thanks in advance
Everybody has their favorite recipe - MMO, PBlaster, diesel oil, transmission fluid, etc. All work about as well as the others.
I'd pull the intake and slosh whatever you decide to use around the lifter bores and valve stems. Also pull the heads and make sure the valves get a good soaking. This way you can check the cylinder walls into the valve pockets to make sure there are no cracks. It's really easiest to pull the engine to do it right.
Enjoy your project and keep in touch - they're sweet rigs!
Use 3 in 1 Marvel oil. That stuff will work. When I got my 400 it was frozen solid from rust and the Marvel oil worked for me. Pour a fair amount in the cylinders and let it sit for a few days. Good luck!
My '53 flathead was stuck when I bought it. I soaked it in Marvel Mystery Oil for about a week and it was a cinch to break free. I didn't bother taking off the intake or the heads, just went through the plug holes as a first attempt and it worked.
Coke used to be the favorite substance for soaking rusted parts when I was a kid. Now that it comes in plastic 2 liter bottles, it's great for soaking small parts, just drink the top few inches from the bottle, and cut the top off. No, really, I'm serious.
hey 53FATFNDR what is this 3 in 1 marvel oil i went to 5 auto parts stores nobody had it only had mystery marvel oil is it the same
I think that is the same stuff. It comes in a red, white and black can. I don't know why I call it 3 in 1 oil. Seems like my Dad used to have a really old can of it sitting around in the garage and it had "3 in 1" printed on it or something. But it is the Marvel stuff. I remember mine was in a metal 4-6 oz can. I think you can get it in bigger cans now. Sorry if I caused you any confusion.
