I think it's one of the best places for a boost gauge. It gives you the true manifold reading, directly out of the manifold. If you've seen my gallery, you'll notice that's where I have mine hooked up.
I might be wrong, but I don't think it would start unplugged at -3* without a good GPR. It was replaced in February.
I would challange anyone to pull on a dyno and demonstrate any benefit from removing the AIH. Not trying to start a big argument here, I just don't think there is any benefit from this mod unless you are using the port for boost access.
On edit: I ohmed the glow plugs and replaced the GPR in December, not February.
i will agree with clux on this one... i have noticed no performance benefit at all from this mod, conversely, i have noticed no problems created by the removal of this heater... personally i think this item is completely irrelevant for a properly operating engine... the reason i did this mod is exactlly what clux mentioned.. i used the port to mount the piece BCDP sells for hooking up your boost gauge... it works perfectly and was the easiest part of my gauge install.. i would definately reccomend using this method for hooking up your boost gauge to anyone who might be about to get one...
Bump. What to do with the wires. And doesn't someone make a plug that goes into it's place that also doubles as a place to mount the tube for the boost gauge?
my wires are just dangling in the Vee of the engine. not even connected, i dont think. they do make a plug with a tapped fitting for the boost gauge, and that is found at www.blackclouddieselperformance.com
