I have a 96 Ford F-250 4x4 with a 460 and e-40d transmission. The truck has a new radiator, fan clutch, 180 degree thermostat, hoses, coolant and im about to put a new radiatior cap on it. I can not keep this truck below 210 with or without the ac on, at times it will stay below 210 but not for long. Im hitting 220 and 230 at times, i was told my water pump is good and my timing may need to be checked. Any suggestions would be appriciated. Whats weird now is how the truck will go from 214 to 204 to 217 to 210 doing the same thing.
A valuable Lession I learned when I had a heating problem...
It was acting werid...over heating sometimes and NOT others ...For NO reason.
One day I was watching the engine run to see what was happening " I had to watch it for quite some time"
what I found out was that SOMETIMES when the T-stat would open and suck coolant into the engine The BOTTOM hose was collapsing.....
Not allowing the coolant to reach the engine....It would NOT do this all the time.
That's waht was driving me CrAzY...
some parts stores sell those hoses with the spring in them DONT ever buy one..the spring rust and the hose is weak to start with...
Hope this helps you...
Instead of watching the engine run for 15 to 20 minutes you may want to just replace the hose....
When the engine is running, take the cap off (when just starting up of course) and rock the truck up and down on the bumpers if can. Just to shake the coolant a bit and displace some bubbles up to the cap. May help and simple and free thing to do. Ya never know?
