where to get rid of tires

I have got some tires to get rid of and am puzzled on how to get rid of them. I know that I can pay the local garbage company to take them but I was trying to do it the cheapest way possible. Does any one know where I can go to get rid of these tires for free? I have nearly 20 tires to get rid of. Thanks for any help.

My local tire dealer has taken a few old tires from me. I don't know if he would take 20 of them though.

Are there any tire recyclers in your area?

Burn them.

In the past I have cut tires up with a sawzall with a metal cutting blade. Though the beads on flotation tires (31s and up) can be 5/16" of steel and are pretty tough. You can take a cut off wheel to that once the rubber is removed. If you cut them into quarters they fit nicely into a trash bag

Just a note. I believe burning tires is illegal. cut them up and let the garbage company take them. either that, or you can always go to the local dump and see what they charge for em.

I don't know how much it costs where you are, But my local landfill takes them for $1.00 each which is pretty reasonable in my opinion.
Do any of them have any tread left? you could put them on craigslist for free..

How/why in the world would you stock pile 20 tires knowing how hard they are to get rid of? If any of them have any tread left are are useable you can take them to a used tire store and give it to them or let them give you a couple dollars for them. When I replaced the tires on my truck, the tires I took off were still decent and I traded them off to the alignment shop for and alignment, same thing with my wifes car a couple days later.

People take tires off when they still have tread on them?

Yeah, if you have a town dump they'll often take them for a dollar or two apiece, otherwise, you might have to pay to get rid of them at the local tire dealer, or pay the rubbish hauler to get rid of them.

Anybody hear about how they worked out how to use used tires to operate coal power plants? All said and done, it costs the same as the coal, so the industry isn't going to be in a big hurry to change. I mean, this country has more coal than it knows what to do with.

I got it! I got It!

Paint the tires white, Yellow, Light blue or any other spring color.

Then put a plant in the middle and sell them as yard orniments...

You could probably make 20.00 per tire....

t_dickie, I am actaully one of those people who demolition derbies. The only problem is that these tires are pretty close to being called slicks. I dont think that they willl help much in mud, lol.

My friend and I cleaned up this guys place and he had tires sitting all over the place (he used to race).

Thanks for all of the help so far. The local dump wants too much money for them, so I am stuck with them until something else comes up. Thanks again.

If you live in the country - save a couple to put around the post that holds up your mailbox!

You might also look for a local go kart track that needs them, or a boat dock.

Don't laugh to hard. I paid $40.00 for a well USED golf cart tire that had been cut/ turned inside out, and painted. It was in the shape of, and painted like a tropical bird and made a neat hanging planter gift for my mom. Wife spotted it and convinced me to buy it.Darn tire didn't cost that much when new.
