I have a wire on the ignition switch of my 78 that is hot to the touch when the key is on, I'm trying to figure out where it goes, looks a light red or orange, with a tiny blue stripe or two. I know this is an indication of a short, needs solved before it burns up, I want to know where it goes. Everything works great, like it should, other than a dask light is out, but that's a blown bulb, I'll get to it later.
I have added a MSD Blaster 2 coil to the duraspark ignition system, I was beginning to wonder if it requires the resistor, but surely not on an elect ignition. Before I go tchanging everything, I'd like to know what the wire goes to, to chase it and solve it that way, instead of replacing everything hoping to eventually get it.
OK, according to the switch diagram given, it's ign 1, it's the far side, at the ashtray. So I need to check the coil, to see that it's wired correctly, and not backward, then the disconnect on the firewall will require cleaning again. Coil is pretty old, but only way I'll replace it, is if bad, or upgrade to HEI. I couldn't be sure of it's color, just location.
