I have check back through old threads and can not find the answer to my problem. In am still in the process of restoring my 1965 standard cab, style side short bed with a 1975 rebuilt 300/6. I have upgraded the ignition with electronic ignition system and replaced all the wiring with a "Kwik wire" 14 ct wire set. It came with wires for everything but the alternator warning light.
I have the black/green hot lead connected to the ignition switch post along with accessory lead for power. Where or what, does the yellow w/black stripe wire go?
The new wire harness came with an "alternator exciter" wire the goes to the ignition side of the Voltage regulator from the fuse block. Using a jumper, I have tried just about every point I could think of. Some would turn the light ON on the accessory or ON position some would not. Those that would turn the light on, would leave the light on after I start the engine.
For the love of GOD, I have spent 2 days trying to solve this problem with the 1965 wire schematic and the Kwik wire schematic. Let me add, everything under the hood is new, regulator, alternator, start relay, starter...ect...
It should go to the voltage regulator, terminal 'A', I believe. It applies power to both terminals of the light, when voltage drops from the alternator, power flow shifts, and the light comes on.
For an internally regulated alternator set up, the yellow/black wire should go to the #1 terminal of the alternator, normally. In this case you can do a search on here for generator to alternator conversion or 3G upgrade and you'll find info, some with good pics too.
