2001 Lls Problems

I have a 2001 Exp EB with LLS. Rear bags completely deflated when I went to drive to work in morning yesterday. Flipped system switch under dash on passenger side and compressor fired up and reinflated rear bags. Check suspension lite came during drive to work but bags didnt deflate. Vehilcle sat all day - no problem. During drive home from work last nite, bags deflated (check suspension lite was NOT on during ride home). Tried flicking switch again like before but compressor would not fire up. Decided to change out leveling sensor in rear (had same symptoms on my 97 F250 LD and it turned out to be bad level sensor). Upon replacement, compressor didnt fire up. Proceeded to jumper 12V to compressor and determined compressor was not bad. At this point suspecting bad relay and determining location on line. Walked back out in garage and lo and behold, the bags were reinflated!! Connector at compressor was clean as was connector at rear sensor. Any thoughts out there as to what would cause intermitent operation as described?? Can the relay be "flaky" or are they either good or bad??

I am about to take for drive to determine if check susp. lite comes back on.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice out there!!

Hey Jay, wecome to the site. Based on your description it sounds like you have tried everything I could think of. It doesn't sound like an intermittent system leak and you've already go the sensor licked. I would certainly think the wiring could be bad between the sensor and the computer. Have you done a visual inspection along its path and perhaps operate the sensor while measuring resistance at the connector up front?

Some other folks may come along with better advice.

from what i have read and been told the relay is a very common problem much more than the height sensor . I had my fill of lls problems this week but the dealer ate the biggest share of the cost. if you can get your air springs pumped up and have someone turn the undr dash switch off it will stay inflated till you get it checked at least my 02 navi did for over a week or just buy the realy and try it. Im sure the dealer would get you for more in diagnostic than the hundred bucks and change for the relay just my 2cents

Thanks for the responses!! Been driving vehicle since my first post. So far, no problems (no check suspension lite, no defaltion, and compressor has been kicking in like it should). We will see how things progress over next day or two. I am guessing the level sensor was the culprit but wonder why the compressor didnt engage as soon as I reconnected battery (it did when I replaced sensor on my 97 F250)?

Newb here....question re the air compressor

Hello, thanks for the writeup on your issues. They certainly will give me something to diagnose in my steps to resolve the ck susp light that lit up this past weekend on my 00 expy with lls.

I too have the rear only airbags, but my compressor didn't fire off when I flicked the switch. The ck susp light did go out, however.

After reading this post and a few others, I fear that I am starting down a road of guess and fix. So, now my question. Where is the Air Compressor located?

The air compressor is between the right headlight and windshield washer reservoir.
