55 vs 56 headlight bucket depth

I know that the air deflectors on the 56 have a dimple in them to allow the headlights to recess a little more, but that also means that the grill bucket must be a little shallower..

Anyone have any measurements of a 56 grill headlight bucket depth?

Thinkin of doing something different for the front grill

thanks

Sam

as i recall the buckets are the same depth, they are set back into the grill on '56's as opposed to being mounted on the outside of '53-'55's. the mounting lip is different on '56's.

thanks, but I'm not sure I understood what you said. The air deflectors mount the same, and are flush with the front gravel pan. The grill, with headlight buckets have 3 bolt sockets where the bolts come thru the deflector.

As the fenders are the same, the air dams have to be in the same place on both trucks, so that only leaves the mounting of the headlights in the buckets to reduce the bug eye effect.

If the dimple allows the light to be moved back 1 in, but the bucket isn't shallower, or the headlight mount on the bucket isn't moved back (means the bucket is shallower), then that dimple is useless.

So, something has got to be different.

The headlite bucket sits further back on the 56, near flush with the front of the grill. The bucket itself can't be shallower or the OEM sealed beam bulb wouldn't fit.

You can modify the '53/'55 pieces by cutting a hole in the deflectors to allow for the recessed '56 headlight position. You can go all the way and then fab a cover for the hole to keep it dry. If you like fish and your truck is a daily driver, you'll find that a tuna can is about the right size.

Ok, I measured my 55 grill headlight bucket depth ane they are 4-7/8 to the mounting surface. can someone measure a 56 grill..

they gotta be smaller to move the bulb back. all the rest of the sheetmetal is the same.

But AX, the dimple in the deflector allows the bulb to sit back further.. thus the grill shell IS not as deep.

It looks like (from pictures) the bulb is recessed in the 56 grill, where it is not recessed on the 55 grill.

so I am trying to figure out how much recessed it is.. or how deep the bucket is to the mount surface..
