I recently bought a 429 with the block code c9ve, was just wondering if anyone has built one of these engines, I no its not a scj, cj, or even a Boss or interceptor I was just curious as to whether this was an alright platform to start with. thanks
Any of the 385 series blocks make good blocks to build off of the C9 blocks are no exception. A block summit was berformed last year down in cuba MO and it was found that no blocks were consistantly superiour and none were consistantly inferiour. The C9VE block is one of the early blocks so it's got the 10.300 deck hieght vs the higher 10.322 of later model blocks all this means is you won't have as much to deck it to bring the pistons up to zero deck if you so choose. all of the blocks tested could go .040 without any problems and lot of them could go .080 overbore but the only way to know for sure is sonic test. That block wll support 600+ hp without any problems, and with some additions such as stud girdle and/or partial block fill will support a LOT more than that.
The C9 heads that come with that block are for all intents and purposes the same as the vaunted DOVE heads, same ports (with the exception of some of the DOVE heads have a thermactor boss in the exhaust port that needs ground out and yours doesn't ) and the same 74cc nominal chamber size. What this means is unless you want to run premium or race gas your going to have to pay attention to what pistons you run to keep the compression ratio at a reasonable level.
