[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Sep-02 AT 10:26 AM (EST)]I just acquired the drip rail chrome, in excellent condition... did not take it off, so I'm kinda clueless how to re-install it. Anyone done this before? Looks like you snap it on and then pinch it down... somehow. Open to suggestions, thanks!

You are bringing back bad memories!
The rule of thumb is if you build a truck that has it on,leave it and mask it off,I dont care how good of a resto it is.
Now for a re-install.If the two peices the connect over the windshield appear to be twisted in any way, forget it.They took them off with to much space between "prys".Most people use a bottle opener.Works good.
The side peices are always good to go but the top is a drag. This job ranks right up there with the chrome winshield trim install.
This install allows you to see how well you have finger thumb co-ordination.
It sounds like you pegged it.
The main concern above the door is getting the curve at the right place.
I suggest a *holding the piece while you install* partner.

Definetly!
Also make sure you sand any thick paint off and clean the actual drip rail. They are tight and that means forcing it and also possible dents in it as you snap it over.
This is not a impossible job.I hate to sound so negitive.
bottom line:
Lay your two upper peices on a flat table and slide them together. If they sit nice go for it,if they appear to be slightly tweaked, save your energy for somethinh else.
>I wonder if the chrome or stainless promotes rust on the steel drip rail over time. Anyone seen this
Mike,
I dont think so.The moulding is a super tight fit to the rails. And the factory seam sealer area is still exposed. The last truck i pulled it off of was a '72 that was a total rot out.The roof was the only good thing on the truck! It was perfect green paint under the drip rail trim.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Sep-02 AT 11:43 PM (EST)]The trim is in excellent condition, taken off nicely with no dings or bends, straight and not twisted. I'm thinking a little silicon sealer as a lube, plus will dry and help hold and seal... thoughts?
It's not at the top of my "to do" list, but I'll keep y'all posted on how it goes... when, if, whatever.

True.I dont know,I was nervous enough the first time i installed it.
One of the best tools in this job is the meaty part of your hand to bump it on.It does snap into place.Another good tool i found was those big plastic 3lb hammers with the rubber face.Just never hit the trim in the center of it,it will show, get the bottom started and bump the top edges with the hammer.
The other trick I know of is to "roll" or "twist" the trim onto the drip rail - first hook the sharp side and then "snap" the side with the wider flange (closest to the door if my memory is correct) over the drip rail. The side with the wider flange will act as a ramp. You should hear the trim "snap" in place. Don't try to snap both sides on at the same time.
I have sucessfully swapped that chrome on trucks without damaging it - just move along slowly in small, even increments to avoid bending/twisting the trim.
