g'day all,
i have a bit of a problem with where my engine is sitting i don't think its right but it very well could be. i'v taken out my 351 clev and c4 and replaced it with a 557 stroker and c6 but when i put the new mounts where they are suposed to go, the engine sits to the passenger side (left, i am in australia) about 2 inches more. im not sure if that is right or not, i'd like to get it right especially with 680hp on tap..... any ideas
getuted, You must stop speaking in unknown tounges. While some may know which engine family a 557 comes from it is not a Ford size and we prefer to stay inside those guidelines while trying to help all posters.
1- Ford didn't install 351Cs in pickups in this country, don't know about down under. The C could have been connected to the original perches.
2- If your 557 engine is a bored 460 block you will need the perches from a late 70s with 460 to make it work.
getuted, get a hold of BigF350 on this forum as he has his dung together, lives in Oz and has the answers off the top of his head. A great chap I must add.
.....=o&o>.....
thanks all,
the mounts ordered should have been for a 69-72 but must have been for a 73-79 model aparently. they are built really good but the right side is much higher then the left though, the 557 is actually a 460 as well just with a bit of lovin..
Yes, or as close to it as doesn't matter. The holes for the '77 perches were punched in ,y '66 frame from the factory.
The front end of the F-100 to F-250 are the same from '65 - '79, from the front of the frame to the back of the cab.
This applies to US trucks. but I do not see a reason why Aussie trucks wouldn't be the same.
Do your perches look like this? The factory ones are 3-piece.
The upper piece bolts to the engine block.
The middle piece is the rubber mount.
The lower peice bolts to the frame.
The upper and lower are crossbolted together to keep the torque from rolling the engine.
If you have them in the right position, all the holes will line up, and all will mate to a hole in the frame.

Wait- ALL Ford engine are offset to the passenger side in the US, I am only assuming the same would be true in the land down under-
This is done for two reasons, the first being proper driveshaft alignment with the rear differential, since the pinion is offset so the axle shafts can be the same length. The other reason is to increase foot room for the driver, and possibly clearance for shift and clutch linkages.
Check the cab out, if the tunnel is offset, then the engine should be offset to the same side. The same perches are used on 2wd trucks from 67-79, I have a set of 77 400 perches in my 70 truck, the engine sat perfect with no aftermarket parts needed.
