bloomsburg has a flood plain? is that not where snowshoe is? just up on top of that long hard pull grade.
i have base board heat and a wood stove . hot air i'd be burning waste trans oil around here.
I don't know if they do that here but I do use over 1000 Gal a year. Between september and febuary I used 900 alone. I'm trying to install an outdoor furnace, but am getting resistance from the zoning officer because I live in a flood plain.
I've heard of those and know a couple of people who own one. One thing I was not aware of is that they can smoke a lot. When heat isn't needed they damp down the fire till it's just smouldering. Then when needed, they open up and that smouldering fire starts gasping for air and belches a bunch of smoke up the flue. Once they get up to temp, the smoke stops, but that's also about the time the get dampered down again, depending on the weather and heat load.
If you are rural or in an area where the smoke will be blown away, I guess it's fine. But if you have neighbors close by, you might not end up being the most popular guy in the 'hood.
Oh yeah...it'll never run out. That's what they said about the trees where the Sahara is, in the mountains of Afghanistan, and in many denuded parts of Europe.
And who said the trees would be around forever???
The logging companies...
Do the trees stay around forever if we kept cutting them...... NO!, but guess who is still making a profit?
Whos saying gas is limited and using that as the cuase for price increase over the past years??
The oil companies,researchers,etc......
Is oil really limited? , well I dont know. But with gas hitting near 3.00 it seems oil companies are getting more well off.
See what i mean?
I know theres ALOT more too it then that, but need less to say, its ALL ABOUT MONEY!!!!
They would tell you that chickens made oil, if it would make consumers not think about the real reason oil is so highly priced.
You mustn't while away your days fretting about that which you cannot control. If you cannot control the price take control of how much you buy. Don't worry be happy!! Grab your copy of Orwell's "1984" compare it to life today if you are a fearmonger and need something to fret about.
As far as the wood furnaces smoking, there are so many different manufactures out there and a lot of them do smoke when calling for heat. If a brand uses a fan to induce draft they will smoke A LOT! Poor insulation and green or wet wood will also cause this. As far as Central Boiler goes, they are the only outdoor wood furnace to meet EPA's emission standards. The rest have to get an exempt. When I install these furnaces, I always install the chimney in accordance with local code, usually having to be the same height as the neighbors roof peak if within 300yds. But your right about being rural. These furnaces are perfect for people who live on a few acres or more of wooded lots and don't mind gathering their own firewood. For anyone else I tend to recomend getting a high efficency gas furnace with a computer control that only heats the water enough based on demand and outdoor temp.
As far as me living in a flood plain, my property borders 2 creeks, one major. and the major one empties into the susquehanna about a mile away.
The fire pit in the background is about 10 feet away from where the creek is supposed to be.
