Gas shortage?
Here in Pheonix, there is a gas shortage! There were people lined up on the streets to buy gas! Just like pictures from the 70's
I think it is a trick by the oil companies! They say a pipe line is ruptured, but, does that mean there is no way to truck it in?
Thank god my 77's got two tanks, l
The reason I'm asking is I going to mesa this weekend from outof state. Should I bring some gas?
70% of our gas comes in from Cal. 30% comes from Tex. The line between Tucson and Phoenix ruptured and now they say, we don't have a gas shortage, but a delivery problem. All the fuel is stored in one location, so now we're only getting 70% of our fuel(don't forget no gas shortage) and it's still being delivered to the same spot. How the **** can we be having a delivery problem, did the truck drivers forget how to find the storage tanks? This is a scam, and it worked, we're over $2.00 a gallon. When are the people going to wake up, and stop putting up with this?
It's another scam, brought to you by the oil companies.

I'm going to assume that you're aware of the law of supply and demand.
It could be sunscreen we're talking about here, if there's no way to transport it to the retail outlets, then there's a shortage. If the cost to transport it goes up ten fold, the consumer is going to feel it. Plain and simple.
The fact that there is gasoline stored in Tucson is irrelevent. There's a lot of oil in Saudi Arabia too, doesn't much help the situation in Phoenix.
You obviously don't understand the way in which gasoline is transported. It is transported between refineries and major depots by pipeline. Pipelines transport 10 times the volume at 1/10 the cost of trucking. Not only are trucks not able to deliver the volumes of fuel required, but the cost associated with it is 10X the normal rate. They also have to fix their pipeline, that won't be cheap, and guess what, you the consumer are going to pay for it in the end. If the sunscreen plant needs a major repair, you're going to pay for that too.
So your gas price will spike for a few days, maybe even a month, till they get it fixed and consumers quit panicking. Shoot happens.
You don't have to put up with, just don't buy gas.
Don't cry conspiracy though, it's getting really old.

You obviously don't have a clue about the situation here in Phx. There is plenty of fuel IN PHX. Now they say they can't figure out how to get it distributed. Same tank farm, same trucks, same drivers. You figure it out, they're pulling something.
Waxy,

70% of supply is 70% of supply, regardless of where it is.
Read the part about delivery logistics again, pipelines vs. trucks.

No you need to understand, all of the fuel in Phx. comes into one storage area(tank farm), from there it is delivered all over the state by truck. It's true that we are only getting 70% of our normal supply(from Cal.), but they are saying we do not have a gas shortage (plenty of gas in storage), now they just can't seem to remember how to deliver it to the stations.

The real conspiracy was between the tree huggers and the politicians, they successfully shut down EVERY refinery in Arizona for "Environmental Reasons".
Now, they are completely dependent on other states for their gasoline supply. Below are a few pertinent quotes.
Unfortunately, for the Steve Brittle types, no amount of logic will make a dent, environmentalists (the extreme ones anyway) tend to approach these things with a religious like zeal and very closed minds.
79Lariat, it's pretty clear to me now what you're facing, and I think I was pretty close with my first post, even if the facts weren't exactly correct. I hope common sense and logic prevail come crunch time.
Sucks when you're at the mercy of California.

What if a person doesn't agree with the Supply & Demand Concept of doing business ?
IMO they have come up with Every possible reason when trying to explain the price of fuel.
1)It's Cold,
2) it's hot,
3) People are going on Vacation,
4)Price of crude,
5)It isn't the price of crude .....it's Taxes
6) Cost of R & D went up.
7) It's cheaper than Water
8) It's cheaper than soda (term for the Americans)
9) Gas Guzzler SUV's
10) Not enough Bicycles
12) CEO's of Oil companies need to receive 12 Million a year in wages.
13) My Dog had Kitten's

The War in Kuwait caused the price of a Barrel of sweet crude to jump to $40.00 /brl, Yet the price of Fuel in Canada topped out about at $0.55/liter then later went back down to $34.0 /litre
What is so different now that a barrel of oil is say $29.00 brl/usd and gasoline is $0.75-$0.88/litre ?
