83 F100 Headlights problem

What's the problem? They don't work. All of the other lights work fine. So, I went looking under the hood for some form of a headlights relay - nothing. I read in the forums that the dash bezel comes off after removal of ***** where a lock nut is found that'll release the light-switch. The forum said the switch is internally fused. Any ideas beyond what I've stumbled upon??? Thanks,

The headlight switch has a built in circutbreaker. It could be the circutbreaker in the switch is defective in that it won't reset. It also could be the connections on the headlight. The back of the headlight is a three prong socket. Take the socket off the headlight and look at the blade connectors on the headlight. Clean them with some fine sandpaper and clean the socket also. Sometimes just pushing the socket on and off of the headlight will clean up the socket. I hope this helps. I have a '80 F100 and the passengers headlight was always dim even after replacing the headlight. Found out the socket was dirty inside and not making a good connection.

Headlights problem resolved

All,

Just for what it's worth, it turns out the floor-mounted headlight dimmer-switch was the cause. I asked a couple of guys that I work with, and in unison they both said dimmer-switch. I hope this info might help someone else out.

They (high beam floor mounted switch) do tend to stick inbetween the high and low beam position.

My does once in a while.

Also of note to headlights, but not related to the general problem, ... My truck has a tendency for the headlamp circut breaker to activate when it gets foggy or humidity is very high. Packing the headlamp sockets with white lithium grease solved this problem. Condensation was getting into the plugs causing a short at the headlamps. The white lithium grease sealed the condensation out.

81-F-150-Explorer, Foggy? You just mentioned S.F.'s official weather.

The only problem I ever had with headlamps is when I was losing my leftside headlamp every few months.

Found out it was a bad leftside radius arm bushing.

My 83 came from the factory with the white grease in the sockets. After many years in S Texas heat it gets a little thick.
