Wiring Problems.....
I have a 1971 Ford F100 I am restoring. The wires from the starter cylinoid switch melted when my kids were blowing the horn. The horn didn't work, but the wires started to smoke and melted. The battery cables also get very hot when trying to crank the truck. Any ideas on what my problem might be??? Help

Bad Ground cable connection.
Horn problem :
Horn wiring in wheel
Horn relay
Bad ground

Wiring Problems.....
Sounds like a short in the wiring. Since the shielding melted a wire is most likely touching metal now causing the short.

I found a new wiring harness @ Dennis Carpenter... installed the harness, now I am back to where I started. We are trying to get the engine to run, adjusting the carb..etc.. But the wire running from the Starting Motor to the Starting Motor Relay and the Ground Battery Cable are getting very hot.... the starter wire started smoking... the harness i installed is doing fine, its not warm at all... What do you think the problem is?

Wiring Problems.....
Too much resistance in the starting circuit.
Clean all the connections and try it again.
If you Still have problems.
Pull the starter,as it's probably gone bad inside the case.

Wiring Problems.....
If it's not a bad connection to the starter, it is likely the starter itself. Buy a lifetime waranteed replacement at Autozone for $50 (plus $15 core charge). Spend another $11 for a purdy red solenoid and you will live happily ever after. I hope you don't have headers. If so, I'll retract the live happily comment.
