Okay, I've enjoyed the hell out of my truck ever since I purchased it - and, of course, PMS has resulted in it being much, much nicer than before.
All this time, my wife has hated it. "It's too big." "It rides like crap." "It's so rough it beats me up every time I'm in it." "I don't want to drive it." "It's like parking an aircraft carrier." etc.
Okay. No problem.
Our son has an internship in LA. My wife, in her desire to make sure the boy has the best, volunteered HER car for the kid to drive back and forth three days a week.
Fine. So she can use his car - except she won't drive his car. I don't know why, but she won't. And, since I have a company truck to go to work and back, naturally, she has been driving my truck.
Funny thing. This is only the 2nd week of his internship, and he only uses her car Monday through wednesday.
All of a sudden, the wife is taking my truck whether she needs to or not.
What's up with that? What happened to "hate" and "beats her up" and "hard to park"?
I guess it just goes to show that most people who think it sucks to drive a big diesel pickup are the very people who have never driven a big diesel pickup. I wish they would stay that way.
Misery? Well, obvious, isn't it? Now I sit at work and worry about my truck being driven by someone besides me!
I figure it's all about exposure time. My wife's seat time at the wheel of my truck Is limited to about 4 occasions. I'm keeping it that way. So for now it's "too big, is in 2 zip codes just sitting there" etc.

Yeah, I was content with that. My wife kept saying she hated my truck, and I just let it stand.
I think Pandora's box has been opened, though. She is, unfortunately, starting to like it.
Wife "Don't both trucks have the same engine?"
Me "Yes, dear. Both are Powerstroke diesels."
Wife "But yours has less clatter."
Me "There are lots of individual differences..."
Wife "And mine doesn't sound as deep. And why does yours have a tailpipe that looks like a bazooka?"
Me "Um, I..."
Wife "And while we're at it, why is mine such a slug?"
Me "Um, I..."
Wife "And mine shifts funny."
Me "Well..."
Wife "Fine. Then we'll trade."
Me "But..."
Wife "Gotta meet some friends. Bye."
Me "But..."
Sound of a starter cranking, followed by deep rumble and soft whistle. Then, rising rumble and louder whistle fading into the distance as truck vanishes down the street, piloted by a maniacly grinning woman.
Me "But.. That's MY truck!" as I stand, staring at the unmodded, clattery, slow, beast left in the driveway.
Of course, that would mean I'd be able to start over again...
Yep! I know the feeling! We go out to the desert alot and had a motorhome to tow a few toys. My son was born a month ago and now the motorhome is not safe enough so we should get a truck and sell the motorhome. Sweet!! I buy the F350 and she says wow it is big and is going to be hard to park, I'm glad you are driving it! She drives it 1 time and now it is "I like how high you sit and can see everything" and "I feel safe in this big truck". (She hasn't driven it since I started putting the mods on)
Question for you that are there already: How do I keep her out of it? I am about to order a chip from Jody and then what!!!! I still want to drive it!

Do like I do, tell her the truck is down or there is some problem, CPS etc and you don't want to get stuck. Since I started messing with mine, she doesn't want to get in it. But I am beginning to catch a lot of mod heat because I have fallen way behind on the spring chore list.
Well thank God she didn't want it!! The way the courts do those things she would have driven off with it if she wanted it and no telling what else. I gotta be careful farting around with my truck. My wife's pretty cool about most things I do but she's starting to get irritated these days with my PMS. I may throttle back for a little while, cheaper to keep her.
My ex didn't like it, never drove it so she didn't want it.
Yeah. That worked well for the past year and a half. She'd do anything NOT to drive it, and that was okay with me. Now she WANTS to drive it.
Moral of the lesson - convince them they NEVER, EVER want to drive your truck. Once they discover what you are REALLY driving, they want it.
My brother has several PSDs.
In order to save fuel (and money) he and his wife got some mid-size car. It gets good mileage - but his wife doesn't feel safe in it. Wants to drive the truck and leave the car for my brother.
Yeah, that seems to be the big draw, safety. "I can really see the road and look how everyone gives us all this room." Not to mention if there is an oopsie, too bad for the other vehicle unless it's something else big.
my 21 yr old daughter discovered the joys of a chipped SD awhile ago. she takes every opportunity to take daddy's lifted crew cab for a drive. i must admit, she looks a whole lot better driving it than i do!
