My v10 rig would not run above 3000 rpm. Took it to our local Ford dealer and they said it was the Cat Converter. They replaced it under warranty and now it runs fine but would not give me any info on why it had failed. I recently read that by federal EPA law they are supposed to give me a reason for the failure. Is that true?
i would think your good for another 5yr/100k warranty on the new cat...there could be any number of reasons and without seeing it its taking a stabe in the dark...as far as your question i think that is something the government wants to know to make sure your compling with the epa
Very doubtful they could tell you "why" it failed... unless it was physically damaged. Could be the brand of fuel you use, the way you drive or just a defect in the chemical composition of the catalyst.
You got a new high-dollar part for free... congrats!
they plug up and fail for many reseasons . bad gas causes pluging up . missfireing causes them to break up. a dealer can't really tell unless they break apart. but either way be thankfull they covered it. as i just out right purchased a new set for my 05 after playing some games. cost me $1248.22 and a $16.76 gasket plus sales tax
the two cats one on each side right by the oil pan. and thr fact when we did the deep trans pan we cut the pipe off and bent a new one. the alumized stell can't take the heat that close and burned though. the pipes are in my first tech gallery so you can see how they are made.
