Question Exhaust System

I have a 1988 F-250, 351 and my exhaust system needs replacing. I have decided to go with a high flow cat converter but havent decided on a muffler yet. I want my truck to be very loud and deep sounding. I mean so loud i want it to wake up the neighbors. I wanted to run straight pipes after the high flow cat converter, but my mechanic adviced me not to since he believed it wouldnt be within legal limits. So i want to know what you guys think would sound the best for my truck. A Flowmaster, Cherry Bomb, Glasspacks????

you wont be able to get that loud of exhaust with a catalytic converter on there, but glasspacks will be the loudest muffler you can put on it. the shorter the glasspack the louder. the kind of loud that you want, you will need open headers or straight pipes.

well if you don't have that harsh of inspectors there you can have no cats and 8 inch glasspacks. that will wake the town up.

Rebel, if i run open headers wont i warp my E-valves, which will cut the sound out. Do you think the glasspacks would sound better or just running straight pipes after the high flow cat converter? My only concern with running straight pipes is not having enough back pressure. Would i have enough back pressure if i went with the straight pipes after the cat? I am also getting stainless steel tips to make the sound deeper

ive heard you can warp exhaust valves by doing that but ive never seen it happen, of course i havent seen many people run open headers.

a glasspack after the catalytic converter would sound pretty good but straight pipes after the cat would be louder. so thats up to you.

you will be fine running straight pipes after the catalytic converter, i know alot of people who have done that.

if i was you id just cut the cat off and put glasspacks on or just straight pipes

Sorry forgot one question to ask. What size pipes should i get for my truck that will produce the best flow and most power? I am going to run single in and duels out.

bigger dia. pipes gives you more power, but less torque, id go with 3" but not any bigger.
