Howdy I have a 1970 F100 and i want to spice it up. I was thinking about building a 351 for it, I am aiming for 400 to 450 Hp. I was wondering If a pair of boss 302 heads could be used on a 351 block. I am curious because I have read that boss 302 heads have very good airflow. The compression might be a bit high but I think with the right pistons I can keep it at about 10.5:1 but not higher than 11:1. Can you tell me if Im nuts?
I believe the Boss 302 was a 302 block with 351 Cleveland heads on it. You can put 351M/400/351C heads on a 302 or a 351 Windsor but it involves modifying the coolant passages at the front of each head. The Ford Motorsport catalogue had/has a good article on how to do it.
I'm not sure what intake manifold you would use, but probably a Windsor one so that the coolant passages line up. IMHO its a lot of work (and money)and if it were me, I'd look into aluminum heads or something similar.
Jimmy K thanks for clearing that up for me. I am not the origanl poster, but I do agree that the time and mone need to do a refab like that would be better spent on a set of aluminum heads. A good set of trick flows can't hardly be beat. And they are made for 302's and windsors.
