Hey guy/gals I just did a 500 mile oil change on my new 06 Ranger (thew racer guys I work with suggested the oil change as a precaution to get rid of any lingering assembly burrs). My 06 has the 4.0l V6, my '94 had the 2.3l 4. On the '94 the drain plug was simple, you pull the plug the oil drains straight out. My 06 however the drain plug is at an angle, drains towards the center of the truck then dribbles to wards the passenger front tire. Is there something/anything i can do short of replacing the oil pan to correct this? If it wern't for an old cardboard box and some cat litter I'd have one hell of a mess in my car hole. Thanks.
I've been using this very hand little gadget on all my cars & trucks for the las 30 years.
Fumoto valves are a good product. I have them on all my Fords. I even had an extra one lying around which I had previously used on my '93 Sable (took it off before I sold the car), so I figured "what the heck" and installed the valve into my SHO's MTX transmission case. Drilled a hole in the case, tapped it with the correct threads, used a little teflon tape as a sealer, and that's pretty much all there was to it.
I have the same engine, and use the Fram Sure Drain valve. I stick the hose right into the used oil container. I also like the fact that there is no lever - that has always made me kind of Leary.

Really works great.
Very nice Joe, like all the projects you do on your vehicles!!!!
I'm curious- has anyone heard any reports of those things opening accidentally?
I've never seen one, so I can't tell for sure, but they just look a little too easy to open, and if they drain fast enough to be worth using, then you'd never have the chance to notice oil spots where you parked.

30+ years and never a leak, and there has never been a report of the valve accidentally opening. Companies like Nissan and Mazda wouldn't endorse a product like Fumoto unless they felt it was a quality piece.
