I cant figure out what my truck is. Its a 1955 F100, has all the stuff for a custom cab, factory a/c and it has the origianl 223 with 3-speed electric o/d. Did they make customs with a 223? Does anyone have the production numbers for the customs made/with a 6 cylinder?
Thanks

AFAIK, the custom cab option was independent of the engine/tranny choice, they didn't bundle them back then, so any combo is possible. I don't believe they offered AC in 55 tho!
I know Ford offered a/c in 55' and its fairly rare. But did only the cc trucks get the option? Im trying to gauge the value of this truck. I need to figure out if I need to sell this truck to a purist and buy some 350 driven truck to suit my needs. So is this something that need to be stocked out, or is it just another truck with a straight six? Either way I dont plan on doing anything thats not reversible.

55 F100s are not particularly rare CC or not, and the CC parts are easy to add, I don't think there is enough extra rarity value in yours to make the purists drool all over their wallets. My opinion is to do whatever you wish with the truck you have and sell off the extra parts to the aforementioned purists. My truck is a fair amount rarer than yours, and I don't let that stop me from building it the way I see fit.
Ok, cool thats kinda how I felt too. I know what its like to have the rare stuff, one of my cars is one of 3 left. I know they made a bunch of customs too. Either way I guess its better I have it than let it stay halfway burried in the ground where I found it.

Rarity alone doesn't set value. It also must be a sought after model. An original 289 Cobra has high value because of both rarity and desirability. A 56 Tanker truck may have had just as low production #s (? just an out of the air example), but would not command anywhere near the price of the Cobra. My CC 56 Panel had very low production #s, but I didn't pay a dime of the price extra just because it was a CC.
Out of curiousity, I assume the rare car you own is the 84 turbo Capri? (Merc version of a Mustang SVO?) Is it particularly valuable? I see SVO's around here and they seem to be hard to move, a lot of the Mustang crowd use them for the rear disc brakes and other goodies. A clean SVO sold here recently (rust-free of course) for less than $2K.
Or is this a turbo version of the Aussie Capri, FWD 2-seater?
Well I have two capris. my 84' is pretty rare (only a handful at most), and I use it to autocross. my other one is an 83' and is far more rare. SVO were made in generous quantities compared to these two cars. Ive had more offers than i can count for both cars. a nice svo around here sells for about 4k, but you are right the market is rather small. i am deeply intwined in a large community of 2.3 Turbo cars and among us my cars are priceless.
most of the general public want my cars cause they are fast, not cause they are special. but i could sell my 84 for about 6k, and its a pretty healthy car. i dont really know how much my other is worth, im sure not as much as id like.........but some day

I almost bought the one SVO that went cheap, I thought they were cool cars.
It would be interesting to see where American muscle would be today if the SVO/Capri RS had caught on, but with SEFI the V8's (Mustang 5.0's and Z28's) came back strong. Nowadays a car with the SVO's HP and 20+ mpg would seem to be a viable candidate. I bet the tuners would love to stick them on the bottle too!
Hey TC84 ever AX away from home? I can't remember seeing a TC at an AX that we've been at, it would be cool to see one run. What class it run in?
ABQ, there are a number of cars that would fit that bill, just none that were born in the USA.
I dont know much about classes other than where we go, but we use a point/letter system ( one place I go to sometimes, im in the street touring x or u class).
Most of the time I run my 84' in class B with about 25 points. I usually have the option to go down a class cause most of the things that bump your points higher (turbo, big sway bar, quick ratio steering, posi, ect.) my car came with from the factory. I do pretty well for myself, Im a lot faster then some, but slower than others. I cant complain too much cause I only have about 1800 invested in my car) But once you start dominating all the local rice boys, its more fun to go up and play a little harder =)
Right now I am still going to school and I cant afford to travel very far to race. Once I get my truck driving, I should have something to tow my car with and then I can go other places against other cars.
