Timing Gear - Bent Valves ???

I'm not going to say it's impossible because I don't know what the circumstances are, but I will say that the chances of it happening are extremely remote. In stock trim the valves barely open far enough to brake the plane of the deck surface and the pistons have a .3" deep dish in them. Under normal operating conditions there is no way that the valves will hit.

The 300 should be fine if that gear were to let loose. As SS said, its got plenty valve clearance.
Most likely a broken cam gear, as its plastic/fiberous. Could be a broken cam, or sheared key, but thats very unlikely considering the weakest link is a lot weaker.
