John, You are a new poster here, so I shall splain some list rules here. We will help you with your truck as long as you are keeping it all Ford.

We DO NOT discuss mixing and matching ******* parts on our trucks. If that is your intent, I would suggest that you find another site to post your question. The is a true BLUE OVAL site, no discussion of that type is allowed, without die hard guys dancing on your typing fingers. :-)

Comprende?

John, you have a very strange goal for your truck(s) and an equally strange request for knowledge. What exactly are you trying to do? And do you realize how much fabrication work it would entail to make the swap work? And why such a little engine with such a big truck?

Amen and Dittos on what Mr. Jowilker said. This site is for Ford purists. Please do not butcher that truck. It has made it 30+ years without being *******ized. If you insist on tampering, use Ford parts or sell the truck to someone who will appreciate it and buy one of those worthless pieces of doot that sinks like a rock!

I appreciate the fordness on this site, but sometimes people go to far. The guy is probably trying to save some cash and work with what he's got.
Though I disagree with what he's trying to do, theres no reason to jump on him...He's just asking a question!

Are you going to persecute me because I have a GM bumper on my 78? How about the guy with the Barracuda bumper on his truck?

Mine was $50. You can't beat that! It lasted 2 years untouched, then my dad backed into a hay rack and creased it.
We don't give a crap about the bumper, and thats why we put it on!

I would buy a Ford bumper if it fit good and was a good price.

I usually tend to stay away from these arguments.....but what the hey
I do agree with the point weldman makes. But I also agree that a Ford should remain a Ford...... as much as possible. I beleive that Ford makes the best truck and have for many, many years...woah just realized how old I am
Anyway, Ford makes the best truck...just not always perfect. Take that stupid power-assist steering setup on the F250's. I mean what the heck were they thinking. I have met people who have swapped in Ch%vy systems and I am happy for them, they still have a Ford truck only with much better/safer steering.
Also who dreamed up that resistor wire running thru the wire bundles behind the dash for the ignition circuit? After mine burnt up, taking quite a few wires with it, I wasn't long replacing it with a Do%dge ballast resistor mounted under the hood where it belongs. But I still have a Ford truck just a better one.
Although I don't think I would go so far as to swap frames, if that is all you have, you have more money than you know what to do with and you want to make it work, so be it.
Not everyone wants an exact copy of the old trucks, I mean there have been many improvements in 30-40 years why not use them.
But if you want a perfect copy, power to you. Just try not to scare everyone away with the "it must be pure Ford speech".
Anyway I am stepping off the "proverbial soapbox". Digging out my Nomex longjohns. Cracking another road pop and going to watch the Hockey game.

I really don't want to offend anyone with my opinion but.... I think that anyone should be able to do as they please with their pickup. If they want a chevy engine in a Ford then fine. If they want a Dodge tranny and chevy engine in a Ford then fine. IT IS THEIR RIGHT TO DO THE SWAPS!! However, it is NOT their right to post on this message board. It is a PRIVILEGE to post on this site! This board was meant to be a forum for FORD truck enthusiasts. The content is at the discretion of the webmaster (owner). I personally feel that it should remain pure Ford.

Weldman, I have a step bumper off a Ford truck that you can have if you will pick it up. It is just off I-85 in Durham NC. That bumper could be choking 15 HP out of your truck. :-)

Nice looking truck otherwise. ;-)

David, I agree, and having seen Kens post on the subject, I know that he feels an all Ford discussion is best.

I didn't jump on the guy, only suggested that this isn't the right site to post his question to. Can you imigane the flame wars if that kind of blaspheme was allowed on this site?

You guys certainly have a right to destroy your trucks, but there are other sites to talk about it on, than here. ;-)

I think this guy can actually do the swap without *******izing his truck. First replace the body mounts with Ford ones so the body will mount. Then replace crossmembers with Ford ones so engine and tranny will fit. Next replace frame rails with Ford ones to properly line up body mounts and crossmembers. Replace Chevy axles with Ford axles so u-joints hook up no problem. Finally, replace the suspension and steering with Ford parts so axles bolt up and that's about all it would take to do a non-******* 4x4 conversion.

No,No No you guys are going about this swap all wrong. Step one ; push the Ch#@y into place, remove gas cap. Step two; push the Ch#$y as far away as you can. Step three; drive the Ford into place, install previously mentioned gas cap. Voila!! swap complete. And look on the bright side now if you forget your gas cap at the service station then so be it! ;-)

Back in the late 60's a man I knew needed a new engine for his B-61 Mack dump truck. He installed a 6-71 inline detroit. Lots of extra work, much time (coupling that Detroit to a Mack Duplex transmission was a feat in itself) and the B-61 did not perform as he expected.
Thirty years or so later this same man bought a 56 Ford F-100 and had a Camaro front end and engine spliced to his Ford's frame. Once again Lots of extra work, much time and the truck did not perform as he expected.
No more Frankenstiens!!!

John,
It sounds like a time consuming swap (i just changed my f100 2Wheel drive to 4Wheel drive). If you were going form Ford to Ford, then I'd do it. You're probably better off building up the Chevy. That gives you the 4Wheel drive, and I bet it has 350 you can pimp out.
Good luck either way!
