I have a 2000 ranger 3.0. When I start it up the gauge says no oil pressure. After a few minutes it jumps right up. It seems to only do it when the engine is cold but sometimes it reads fine from the start. I'm thinking it is just the sending unit. Should I worry about it or just wait untill I find time to change the sending unit.
mine did the exact same thing. replace the unit on the back of the motor above the belhousing. it fixed my problem. DO NOT IGNORE IT!!! if its real ull regret it
thanks. I'm going to change it this weekend. I work 10 to 14 hours days this time of year so finding time is hard. I just wanted to know if someone else had the same problem. It scares me when I see no oil pressure even if I think it just the sending unit. Like you guys said if it not I will be trouble.
Replace that sending unit! And hopefully that's it.
Just a little FYI, your oil pressure "gauge" isn't a gauge at all. Just a glorified dummy light. 8 PSI or greater, and it jumps happily up to the center. If you wanna fix that problem, get a real oil pressure sender and hook it up just like the stock one, your gauge will function fine and you'll see quite obviously what's really going on with your oil pressure.
Typically if the engine wasn't getting oil, it'd be making all kinds of cool noises (cool in the strange, not the you know, coooool way). So it's probably getting pressure and the sending units just crapped out.
So where is this sending unit and can I change it myself? details and what to look for will help me out. My dad's trucks has this same problem since he bought it new in 1999. Thanks
