I have a 1992 F150 and I desperately want to put a 9" rear end into it, unfortunatly I need VSS for my speedo to work and I saw a part for this particular swap in a 4x4 magazine of mine, but do you think I could find that article again? Any way, I was wondering if any of you would have any idea on where I would be able to find this particular piece of information?
This is the 8.8 area of the site, but look around the site, they sell 9" stuff too. Not sure they have what you want. Maybe they can help you with the 8.8
I`ve read about other`s swaping in a 9inch and going about it in three ways.(that sounds kinda dirty huh?? haha)
And getting ready to do it myself to my 93.Current 8.8 in in need of a rebuild, so might as well up grade now.
Currie offers nothing at this time. To put a sensor/tone ring in the 9inch.
1 is to move the tone ring on to the drive shaft(slip yoke) and mount the sensor off a bracket. From doing some searching today on other sites I may have found a company that offers a "kit" .I`m giving them a call tomorrow.

2) is to have th tone ring installed on a 9inch and drill and weld a bung on the 3rd member.I`ve found pictures of on done but with no further info on how etc.(if any one would like the pics e-mail me and I will send them)
3) I have heard about a stand alone computer.I know nothing about this yet,but looking in to it.
there is a hot rod shop that is putting 9`s under the "newer" style camaro`s.that also require a VSS.They have a web site I`m searching for right now myself. As I rember they had pics.
Thank you very much gentlemen for your information.
One idea that I have for solving this problem would be to use an aftermarket electronic speedometer pickup, such as the one that Autometer Guages uses for retrofitting electronic speedometers into older vehicles. Since I am using the NP 205 transfer case from one of my old broncos, I have a space to put one of these sensors. Then, theoretically all I have to do is recalibrate the module for the amount of pulses that the sensor gives off. I had found a site on the internet where a guy put a vss on his driveshaft, which is probably the one you mentioned, so this would be something similar with less fabrication. Good luck with your swap aswell.
I installed the tone ring in a nine inch. All you have to do is machine the tone ring on a lathe to press onto the 9" carrier right next to the ring gear and fab a mount for the sensor. It worked great. It's not a hard deal when you already have the axle out of the truck. Some of the measurements are difficult to take, but definitely doable! I made the tone ring super tight and heated it with a torch to get it on just like a ring gear.
