This is not quite what you were thinking. On Sunday I was checking the cows and noticed one was laying a little to far over. Get closer and she's stuck on her side. She has a bad hip and lost her balance thus getting stuck. Got my parents, we looped some rope around her legs and rolled her over. If a cow lays over to far and can't get back up they bloat and die. Here's my little story.
I remember working on a steer that was bloated. We used a chunk of garden hose and some dish soap and slid it down his throat. Was like letting air out of a tire. I will never forget that smell !
Yes, it is an older cow. It would have been sold but before we got into the trailer, it ran into the barn and hit some boards. She tired herself out so if we loaded her she would have layed down in the trailer and got trampled.
At least now there is a better market for older cows/bulls. Last couple of years it was quite hard to move these older animals, very little market for them.
