if the oil has the ford 930 spec than its a damn good oil no matter how inexpensive you find it. Chevron supreme runs about 1.50 and is producing numbers better than some 6-7.00 oils used in these engines.
Gashog, I bought a ton gtx 5w20 that was on sale at Wally world, came back to buy some more and all that is left is 5w30 but it had the 929 spec...is that the old one that was for the 97-99 V8's that had the 5w30 on the old cap?
I'm not putting down any of the other oils here, but I went to Walmart last night and noticed that while the shelves selling Valvoline, Havoline, Quaker State, etc...were full, the SuperTech shelves were empty. It looks like folks are watching crude prices climb and are deciding to buy now while they can.
The origional owner of my truck always used 10w40 in it for 80K miles. Once I got it, we switched back to 5w20 Valvoline and its been fine ever since...
Skilife, you need to stay with a 5w-30 oil because of the high miles on the engine. Fresh engine, you would be better served with the 5-20. If you were to change to 5-20 now, you probably would suffer from lack of oil pressure at temp at the crank. There would be far too much oil leaking from around bearings and parts that have been broken into the heavier viscosity oil. If you use an energy conserving 5w-30 oil, it will be on the thin side of the viscosity range. If you don't have any troubles with the oil pressure using the EC oil- that's the oil you need to run.
xtrford, the basic difference between the 929 and 930 specs are the viscosity. 929= 5w-30, 930= 5w-20
