Hey guys, does anyone know if Ford uses
Motorcraft Premium Synthetic 5W-20 oil when they build the V-10's?
Im getting different anwsers from everyone.
Some tell me that they use Motorcraft Semi-synthetic 5W-20 oil
then some say that they just use regular 5W-20 oil
Whats the real anwser?
Should I use Motorcraft Premium Synthetic 5W-20 oil?
Thanks guys
The only Motorcraft 5W20 I have ever seen was a syn-blend. I use Mobil-1 5W20, on one occasion I was unable to get the Mobil-1 5W20 and in that case I used 5W30. It still runs so I guess no harm done. Mine is a 02/V10 and the owners manual warns against using a non approved oil filter or you will experience low engine knock on start up. Once I was unable to find a Motorcraft and used a Fram, and guesss what, I got low eng knock. Now I get several filters and always make sure I have one on hand when needed.
well they do make it but have never seen it...it is possible the factory uses it but i highly doubt it when they scrape things like glove box lights, etc
thanks art as i was about to fry mike a little bit over that post. yes the factory fill is 5w20 semi blend motor craft and a full syntec will not hurt this motor, infact mine seems to run just a little smoother on castrol syntec then it did with the motorcraft oil. and yes i am running 5 w30 no problems no useage.
we have a motor here that just deserves the best you can afford to give it, filter wise go into walley world they have the correct ford oil filter "fl820" at $3.27 here price may varrie where you live but it sure beats giving a ford dealer 2 times that.

That should be an fl-820S - the "S" is the silicon anti-drainback valve, and my 2001 V10 owner's manual specifically states the "S", which is different than my '96/97 4.6L's, they only specificy the FL-820.
nit pick no, i 'm haveing brain farts all day today and could not remember the letter figured you would correct me, must be all them good pills the doctor gave me after the surgery. crs big time lately
