I have '72 F250 390 2v automatic. Yesterday, while at the hardware store, I could not get it to start. It turned over fine, but it seems like it is getting no gas. There is gas in the tank. I recently, in the last week, switched back to the main gas tank, as I have the aux. tank out to do some brake work.
A friend mentioned it could be vapor lock. What is this and is it a possibilityand how do I fix it? It was running great just before this trouble. Could it be the fuel pump, bad gas, points gone, or??? I am lost on this one. Any help and trouble shooting would be appreciated.
Can you take a little go-juice and pour it directly into the carb (just a few ounces; like from a paper cup) and then your ride will start up momentarily?....this will lead is in the direction of fuel supply. If it doesn't start this way, we need to start looking in other areas....
Poured gas in the carb and she started right up. When I pushed on the accelerator it seem to be working ok. Then I let it idle it died. Cranked it over and she wouldn't start again. So, does this point to fuel filter, or fuel pump? Thanks for your input.
I would try a fuel filter first. May have gotten plugged when you switched tanks.
Also it could be the fuel selector not fully to one tank.
You can always disconnect the fuel line and see how much fuel flows when you crank the engine over, dont use a styrofoam cup they tend to dissolve
