Haven't been here in a while, sorry guys been real busy.
I have a problem hoping you can walk me through it. 97 f-350 dually. 5 speed manual. No mods, just straight pipe. Runs great good enough power I think. Today my daughter and I were driving around town then decided to go out on the highway for a spring drive. Outside of town there is a hill with a good grade to it where you cross the river then back up again. Never had a problem pulling it in 5th until today.
Half way up I started to lose a bit of power. No big deal, give a little more peddle. Nothing happened. I turned around at the top of the hill and went back to town. Climbing the hill on the other side of the river, I have to shift down to 4th and continually lost power to where I went from 80km to 50km. Never had to shift on the hill before. When I got on the flat I went to 3rd gunned it not much there, shifted to 4th gunned 'er again still not much there.
I don't know enough about diesels to make any guesses but this really sucks because it is my work truck and my only source of transportation.
I need to know what to look at first and where to go from there.
Truck was warm, temp outside was 10C. Never noticed any noises or anything. I could hear the turbo 'whistle' as it spooled up like normal.
I don't get it, last week I pulled those same 2 hills with 3000lb on the deck and did it in 5th without a problem.
Air filter guage says its ok???
New fuel filter in Jan.
600km on oil.
I did some searching on here and tried a couple things, then I checked the cap on the fuel filter. I got a full turn with my hand! Probably the problem right there, sucking air. I went for a drive quick and it felt fine. Maybe that was all it was.
fuel filter may have been the problme but was it leaking fuel out? if not its may not have been but who knows give it a try and see what happens. still may have been letting air in but not fuel out.
