Post carb boil over

I just got a 68 ranger 360 4spd. short box. when I drive it for any length of time gas POURS out the vent hole on the top of the 2bbl. carb. It also sounds like the fuel is boiling in the bowl. Any ideas???

Maybe the needle and seat are not sealing or the float is set too high. Your engine has to get pretty hot for it to boil out.

I got a carb kit today, will install in the a.m. previous said he had just rebuilt it, but may have lost parts. There is an arm over the vent hole that looks like it should be attached to something over the vent. It's just hanging in the wind. I'll know moer tomorrow. thanks

Regarding swinging arm. The top of the arm should have a 1/4" round rubber gasket which seals off the hole over the float chamber. The arm should be attached to a bracket with a spring on the horizontal section of the arm. The bracket has 2 screw holes which are screwed into the 2 passenger side holes on the accelerator pump at the front of the carb. The lower vertical section of the arm slips between the backside of the arm on the accelerator pump and the front surface of the carb.

It is actuated when pushing the accelerator pedal, which moves the accelerator driver side pump arm forward on the front of the carb. When the pump arm moves it squirts an extra shot of gas into the venturi and at the same time the passenger side of the pump arm pushes in the bottom of your swinging arm which lifts the rubber gasket off the top of the float chamber hole to release any vacuum which would hinder the extra shot of gas.
A diagram of the carb would be helpful.

I once had to put a adjustable pressure regulator on the fuel line feeding the carb. The fuel pump may have been a little high on pressure on the inlet valve been a little weak. Did not have any more problems.

I also once installed an adjustable fuel pressure regulator because I thought I had too much fuel pressure. The reg helped, but didn't completely cure the problem. My symptoms were the carb would occasionally flood and I couldn't adjust a consistent idle speed. I replaced the float, which looked ok, and the problem cured. My float was the old black vitron material type. Now have a brass hollow float. Evidently. the black type floats get saturated and start sinking a little at a time. No way to check it. To check a brass float just remove it and shake it. If it has liquid inside, replace.

Problem solved!!!!!! First, I want to thank everyone for their input on this problem. All info is good. Well, it was real simple, the guy who had the truck before me "rebuilt" the carb and he failed to put the gasket on the power valve when he replaced it. All is well in the land of Lincoln and FE powered Rangers. THANKS , Revrick
