Y pipe

I have a `97 expedition 4x4 with the 5.4 engine. I have added gibson headers and 3 inch cat-back exhaust. Would I see any benefit from increasing the y pipe size?

Considering thats one of the biggest restrictions due to how they are made at the factory, yes. Replacing everything but the Y pipe is like keeping a cork in an otherwise good flowing system.

This is similar to what my factory y-pipe looked like.
Choked down to 1.6 inch inside diameter.

The most a system will ever flow is dictated by the smallest diameter. It's the same principal as the "chain is only as strong as it's weakest link" adage.
