well i have a 03 super cab fx4 with 28k on it, i bought this truck new 2 years ago and i plan to do the hole drive it tell it dies. we have a guy here at work with an old truck with 290k on it im curious if you guys think these trucks will drive to 300k? also i only live a miles away from work, so is that really that bad starting it driving a mile then shutting it off? if so will i never see 300k? i do change my oil every 3months/3000 miles, but usually the 3month is up before the 3000.
thanks

Mines got 83k on the clock, no problems. We had 2 at work, sold one, one had 230,000 on the clock and not a problem, but the other blew at about 160,000 or 180,000 but I believe that was the drivers fault, wasn’t checking the oil. My dads expy’s got about 80k as well and not a problem. I know of at least one that’s gone 500k in heavy service and hasn’t had any major problems. I’m confident that so long as you do basic maintenance and don’t hot rod at every corner that it will last 300k. Yes many short trips will wear an engine faster then fewer long trips, but even so I think it’ll still do 300k well maintained.

I have a 97 4.6 liter with 196,000 currently and see no reason I couldnt get 250,000 to 300,000 out of it. Only thing replaced on the motor besides regular maitnance was the alternator. Expect to do the ball joints and tie rod ends, they are a common failure on these trucks no matter the engine. I think the heater core is also a weak link, I got 174,000 out of mine. Good luck, no reason you shouldnt get a couple hundred thousand miles out of it. As far as only a mile to work, it dosent get the engine hot enough to dissipitate the moisture from it getting warm and than cooling down again, if I were you I would take it on at least an hour one way drive every weekend to burn that moisture and condensation off, or just change your oil more often.

ok, so you guys don't think my mile trip every day is going to kill it though w/o hot rodding and good matience i should be able to push 300k out of this? see thing is i was planing on selling it awhile ago im young bills are tight and stuff but i did get it at the end of 03 when the 04s where out, it was a new left over i got it with lots of rebates and 0% apr and i only have 2more years to pay on it, i can make the payments but bills are kinda tight. i only have 28k on it and my dad told me i would be dumb to sell it for anything just to ride it out and drive it tell it dies. so thats why im hoping this truck will run a long time.

"Drive it till it dies"
Let's do the math. You're averaging less than 14k per year. So in ten years you'll have about 168K (incl. the 28k already on it)
In twenty years you'll have 308K- I don't think you have to worry about driving till it dies. We'll probably run out of fossil fuels before you kill that thing.
Also 0% financing is hard to beat. You're giving money away if you trade it in before its paid off and don't get 0% again.
Other than replacing the IAC around 70K I've had no problems in 125,000 with my 01.
I go skiing almost every weekend and can average almost 17 mpg from sea level to 8000' and back. Usually, after getting gas out in the valley about 100 miles from home, I'll get better than 19mpg (driving between 60-65). Tomorrow, I'll be shooting for 20mpg on the way home. It's possible but you have to drive painfully slow (60 or less). The difference in time between 60 and 70 is about 30 minutes over the course of the trip. Not a whole lot of time if you don't have to get up early the next day. I find the cost of gas is slowing me down a little bit.
Don't worry about the truck with proper maintenance it will be there for a long time.

1999 F-150 4.6L just rolled over 200K. 2 batterys, oil changes every 2 to 5k, 5-6 brake jobs, and developing a miss at low rpm's. A friend and a few searches here say new coil packs a EGR valve and I'm good to go another 50K.
Oh ya I changed the plugs once.

2000 F150 7700 4x4 S'cab, 88000 miles... plugs around 65k miles. Oil/Filter every 3500-5000 mile. Front brakes ever 25K. No major problems with the engine or transmission (5.4, 4R70W). I still have a bent axle shaft in the rear 10.25". Wife has been enjoying it while I'm far,far away.
