Hello everyone. New member with a big problem. I have a 1987 f 150 straight 6. The ignition stopped working the other day so for a quick fix I took off the cover on the steering column and push the rod with plyers to start.haha seems to work fine. Any way the truck started running rough 2 days ago (chugging and stalling). yesterday got halfway to work and she died. towed it home and it wont start. has good spark from coil and plugs, fuel pump comes on for a few secs. No fuel at pressure release valve. So far I have replaced the fuel filter. any thoughts? Thanks
Welcome to FTE!
You need to check the pressure, to find out if the pump is actually working.
The in-tank pump may be working, but the frame mounted one may not be.
Thanks for the reply. I dont have access to a gauge but when I depress the schrader valve I get a little air pressure and very little fuel ( a few drops) Had son crank engine over, same thing. have had one person tell me its high pressure pump (mounted on the frame rail) and another told me he had same problem and he bypassed the dual tank hub and only runs front tank now????? he says it was sucking air into lines. Iam kind of leary of this fix... Also just went out and checked , both fuel pumps ( in tank and rail) start for approx. 2-3 secs. with key on the on position.

I took the bottom off of the thing that seperates the fuel tank lines(dont know what its called).thought there may be another filter but only a pick up tube. there was a quarter inch of fuel in it so I filled it up , screwed it back on and actually got the truck to run, for about 10 seconds and than it died again?? I am obviously no car guy but Im getting closer.lol any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
