Headlight problem?

Headlight problem?

I am not sure if this needs to be in this section or not but I need some help with wifes car. My wife has a 93 Mercury Grand marquis and last couple of days when she comes home from work at night its a 17 mile ride and when she gets almost all the way home her headlights start to blink off and on. Doesn't do it in the beginning just after she has rode for 15 or 20 minutes. I checked all fuses and seem fine. Can any of you tell me what the problem might be.

Is the alternator keeping the battery sufficiently charged? Do the other electrical items in the vehicle being losing their efficiency towards the end of the drive as well?

Ranger When I saw it last night the lights were steady blinking but the side orange sidemarkers didn't seem to be going dim at all but will look closer tonight. I don't think it was cause she is alway got radio on. I will also pull negative battery cable to make sure it is charging. Can you do that on these new ones with the computer stuff on it used to my old 67.

my 97 mercury did the same thing and i ws stumped but my batt ligh was glowing dimly so i knew it was the alternator but it was a good alternator come to find out there is a diode and a fuse somewhere behind the engine and that was bad and now other than the heat killing my batt it runs great

Don't do that. It's too easy to blow all the computerized stuff up. The best way is to get a voltmeter and check it with the engine running. It should be around 14.5 volts if it's charging.

If the system voltage is steady and everything else seems to work ok, I would suspect the headlight switch or the switch wiring plug may be the problem. If you can reach under there after she gets back home again, see if the switch and or the wiring is hot.

Maybe I'm missing something? Does the headlight switch in a 93 G/Marquis have the circuit breaker in it like the older models?
Try turning on the headlights with high beams too & see if the on & off blinking happens sooner than usual.
