Finally im redoing my turbo at class, and i tore it COMPLETELY down to pieces today. on the venture, i had a buddy try to remove the large o-ring (gray) that sealed the compressor housing to the actual backplate. he did not get it, so i used a ladyslipper and ended up ripping it so i can't reuse it. i went to the local stealership today and they said they didnt have individual parts, that i would have to buy a new turbo assembly for the seal. thats BS. does anyone know the part number? i want to have this back together by friday afternoon. thanks.
pics are to be uploaded. i took several pics of the disassembly. heading out to polish the compressor housing and backplate, so ill be back later to upload pics. just need the seal part number. thanks!
Are you talking about the big one that goes around the outside of the compressor housing? I've been looking online for that one for you now and no luck.
You know the truck will run without that o-ring. If worst comes to worst you can always fill that channel with a very fine bead of silicone and bolt it back together. Let it cure overnight at least. 24 hours is best before running it.
That's how they seal up case halves on the transfer case and rear axle cover with no leaks.
That o-ring (2in dia +-) is available in a kit. Includes bolts (exhaust housing) upper and lower pedistal o-rings and the one your looking for. I'll check tonight for the #.
Mech - I got that one in the same KCM kit that (I think) Strokin got - if I'm not mistaken, he's talking about the BIG one (5 or 6 inches?) that is in a groove on the compressor side, after you've pulled the housing off.
yes. the HUGE one. i think it is the biggest seal in the air management department on the engine. i am not talking about the compressor OUTLET seal that is a little thicker, i want the one that is about 6-7" in diameter.
Catman, that would be great if you could do that. if it is not too much to ask for, could i possibly have it by friday afternoon? you only live a few miles away (not even a hundred) so im thinking if you could possibly get that in the mail tomorrow and i might have it by friday. or, i could go with kwikkordead's solution and use a bead of silicone. i am hauling a bunch of friends up to the sprint car races (my teacher is the team's mechanic, but on a gasser..?) on friday night and i would like to have it by then. so if i can get it back together tomorrow, i can let it sit up for about 24 hours and then go. he has plenty of silicone at school. now Kwik you have convinced me, that sounds like a good idea. Catman you can scratch the promptness. you can still send it if you want so i could have a spare.
I'm positive that you can silicone that housing and it will hold. Just don't be a cake decorator. Use just enough to fill the groove and a tiny bit more. Let it cure for the night and put it back on in the morning and you'll be good to go.

Yea I couldn't pull it off until tomorrow after work - the wife is out and I am watching the kids - so it wouldn't be the super speedy - but I will try to pull it off for ya.
