Ok, I dont have an 06 but a friend of mine does. He wants to put a single in dual out 40 series on his truck, and he wants it to be loud. he went to Meineke yesterday and they told him he cant get it dualled out because it has 4 cats or sumthing. I looked under my other friends truck today and only saw two, may I ask why there is 2 cats on a single pipe? They also said that they cant take the cats off or something cuz its illegal and i think theyre just trying to rip him off. I offered to install everything for him as I am handy with trucks and stuff but he wants it professionally done. I dont want him getting ripped off, so i gave him a diff muffler shop to go to, but me and him both want the truth about it! Please PM me about it as I dont look on this section much!
I have 40 series duals. That means 2 flowmasters with 4" tips straight out the back. I only found one shop that would do this, but it sounds great. Do not cut the cats though. I wanted a loud sound too. It gives a very deep rumble and you really get the full effect when you get on it. Let me know if this helps.
Just about any custom exhaust shop can do a SIDO setup on your or your friends truck. It starts behind the cats and has one muffler then 2 pipes to the rear. If you want a true dual setup you must split at the crossover pipe and then replace your cats.... from there it will have 2 mufflers and 2 pipes to the rear. Kinda pricey but nice if done correctly. Most of the duals you see on trucks now are cat back systems. Hope this helps.
May I ask why there are four cats though? or are there only two?? the guy at the shop said there were four cats. When I looked I only saw two unless there is more up under near the manifolds. I hate cats, i think theyre retarted, thats why i drive a diesel!!!
True duals let the engine breathe better. A SIDO setup also lets the engine breathe better. By breathing better it will produce more power and torque. There are 4 cats on these trucks. Yes, 2 of them are tucked up right against the manifolds. I have always run SIDO on all my trucks. The sound is great (if you get into that sort of thing) I personally like the sound from Flowmaster and Dynomax. They are nice and throaty and have a nice rumble at idle. If you add an air intake you will complete the system. It will give you much better throttle response also. Just my opinion.
