Do you guys use scouring powder to help remove stripped, rusted, and over torqued screws? It's a god sent around here with some of the knuckle heads who over tighten or strip out panel screws on A/C. Works on bolt heads too.
Neat trick, learned that in the Army working on aircraft from an old sheet metal guy.
Works real good to *prevent* stripped phillips head screws that are torqued way beyond spec.
Okay. Say you have a number 2 phillips screw that is just reefed in there tighter than a mini skirt on prom night.
When the wife isn't looking, ****** the Comet from under the sink, take to garage. Deposit a good dollop of spit (it's handy) on the tip of your bit or screwdriver and dunk same into Comet so it has a good coating over the bit. For whatever reason, the comet fills the gap(s) between the screw and bit and makes a very tight fit without slipping, usually giving enough gription to remove the screw before stripping. Works great.
Thanks for the clarification. Although necessity is the mother of invention, don't you often wonder what would prompt someone to even think about using scouring powder this way?
