Regulated Fuel System Done!!

Well i spent the day and did my regulated return system. I made a block out of aluminum and drilled it and tapped it to accept the factory pressure regulator and 1/8"npt fittings at each end. I also used compression fittings and made new 5/16" steel lines instead of using rubber line. I can tell you it was a pain!!! I used blue loctite on the comp fittings so they won't back off. What a differance i must say! The old girl has never run so quiet!! The next thing i am doing is the pre pump pump! I will make sure i post some pics so you guys can see my setup. Anyways anyone thinking of the regulated fuel system i have thing to say. Do it!!!

I'd like to see some of the pictures of how you tied the factory pressure regulator into the system. Sounds good!!

I can see it in my mind how you did it, but I would also like to see your pictures.
And you plumbed the entire system with steel line??? Major kudos for going above and beyond the call of duty!

Hey guys i got some pics posted! Hope you like them. Here is a list of what i used:
8=1/8"npt-5/16"compression fittings
Roll of 5/16" steel line
Blue locktite
1 1/4 X 1 1/4" X 3" Piece of aluminum
Stainless screws
T bracket to mount it
LOTS of patients!!!
The rubber line would have been much easier but i like to do things the hard way! (why i don't know!) Good luck to all on your modding adventures and i hope i can help you's out someday!! Lancer

That's a pretty creative idea. I never would have thought about doing it like that. Nice work!!

Looks good Lancer. Question, I see that you moved the factory regulator. What did you do at the factory location on the filter housing? Is it plugged or plummed in to the system somewhere?

Hmmm,

The old regulator location might be a good place for a very small air-bleed orifice to the return for the stock fuel filter bowl. One of Diesel Innovations' $9.95 "caps" could provide a port for it.

Yeah Pop, my concern is that fuel feeds into the bottom of the bowl, and I think it goes to the heads from fittings also on the bottom of the bowl after filtration. I theorize that the return fitting is at the top of the bowl as the factory method of eliminating any air making it into the bowl. If that hole is eliminated, I would think there could be a potential problem there. I just don't know, and am not saying this is how Lancer did his, just wondering.

How about DI cap, to Okcc .008" orifice, to a tee that runs into the return line. Sorta like this :

Hey guys Lancer here. All i can say is it works great!! I drove it all around and is so much quieter i can't believe it!! When i first started it after doing the mod you could hear the air coming up the lines as the fuel pushed it through. Once the air was out of the system you could hear the fuel pump instantly build pressure. I test drove last night but just shortly. When i started it this morning you could hear the fuel pump rev up until the air was gone then it started to build pressure (if you listen you can hear it!) It started right up like normal but is so much quieter than before!! I'm lovin it!! As for the plugging the hole on the filter. I happened to have a broken housing from a previous regulator (factory)I tapped it and plugged it with an 1/8"npt plug. I wotked great and bolts right back on!! Hope this helps!

Well it would appear that my concern about plugging that factory return was unfounded. Yours passed the most important inspection of all, you.
