has anyone who has swapped to discs noticed an improvement in MPG? I would imagine that the discs which have less drag than [properly adjusted]drums may net a slight improvement. I am swapping motor and trans at the same time so my constants have gone out the window!
OK, I just got back from my first long trip with my '72 302, C4, 3.25 rear. I averaged 14.4 mpg for the trip. That's 500 miles on a straight, level road going 65 mph.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Nov-02 AT 07:01 PM (EST)]C4 is a Ford 3 speed automatic transmission, little brother to the C6. It went behind smaller V8s and the 6 cylinder motors. It's much lighter than a C6.
With my 4.10 gears and an a pretty nasty cam, carb and intake combo I'm happy to be getting about 10 MPG.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Nov-02 AT 10:33 PM (EST)]I remember reading in an old SAE paper that at 5000rpm a fixed fan can take 15hp to turn. But using the "fan laws" power is proportional to the cube of speed, so at 3000rpm you'd have a 3.2hp loss. Significant, but not huge.
