Well, considering your post is the first "short" displaying the more common problems of CPS failure, I vote for the CPS as well. Not saying that replacing the CPS will be the cure all, just saying more time than not it is the CPS.

Pearl, usually when the fuel heater shorts out, the fuse blows and then the truck quits running completly. The difference between that and a failing CPS is a lot of times the failed CPS will start to work again and the engine will start.
When a fuse blows = no start, no smoke, no nothing until the short is delt with and a new fuse installed.
