I am driving down the road, at or about 50 MPH, and the engine acts like it dies. This acton lasts for mere seconds, but it is very disturbing. I have checked the electrical system and the fuel system with no apparent problems. The truck is has 67,041 miles, I put the last 20,000 on her. I have not performed any maintenance other then routine. Any help is appreciated.
what you describe is exactly some symptoms of a failing CPS (Camshaft Position Sensor). do some searching on here (blue bar at the top of the page, third box from right) and see if some symptoms proposed are what you are experiencing.
I have a 2000 F-150 with 144,000 KM on the clock, I bought the truck at 100,000KM since then I have done nothing to the engine (5.4litre) other than a new fuel filter this winter, the other day it started to loose power when giving it gas it does not stall but it seems to be not getting any fuel, my guess it just needs a tune up new plugs, which to my knowelege have never been changed, what else might be causing this, my first thought was bad gas, any ideas.

Welcome to FTE. Also welcome to the failing CPS ranks. It is a very common problem for these engines as a search will show. Please use caution while using this site as it tends to cause PMS (Powerstroke Mod Syndrome). This is curable but it is not cheap. Again welcome to FTE.
Thank you all for the warm welcome and prompt reply's. I had no idea about the CPS failures, but at $150.00 I do have to agree, that is a cheap repair...After all, if we can afford to have, drive and appreicate the F350 PowerStroke bad-boy, then what is money/?/ I kid of course, we have to have money to afford the mods! All have a good day!
www.blackclouddieselperformance. com has them for $90 or you might be able to get one cheaper than that on ebay. if you dont want to wait they are about $100 from an international dealer which is a lot cheaper than a ford dealership
You prolly don't want to wait to long before getting a new one (CPS). You may have a while and you may not. There is no way to predict what they will do and when they will do it. Some times it restarts and sometimes it don't. Good Luck .
The truck does not die totally, just cuts out, like it had a dead cylinder or a spark plug wire came off, then keeps going like the 'bunny'. I will still change the CPS anyhow. It is probably due and it can't hurt.
I just ordered the BLUE one from BCD. The truck just up and died as I was walking in front of it to get in this morning and I figure she was telling me to get a move on! Then there was a nice back-fire out the tail pipe in front of a couple of small cars on my way to work. They hit their brakes...it was kind of cool! Part should be here Thursday! Thanks again for the advice. Next, the chip mod!
Hold the fort men. I thought my truck had blown the CPS a year ago. Talked to the mechanic today. He said I had a short near the heater coil. Now when she quit and the way she quit, kinda suddenly I thought it was the CPS. moral of the story, It might be a short.
