I've been looking for a bare wire or something as to why I don't have any power on the drivers side of my truck. I don't have power to the under hood lite, the interior lites don't come on when I open either front or back doors,(crewcab) and my A pillar gauages are dark when the headlites are on. The truck does have a remote start and it is a haystack of wires under the dash by the fuse block. Any ideas would be helpful and I haven't a clue.
Do you know what fuse or point the power for the gauges comes? Also, most gauge installs tie into the dimmer switch for the lighting. Did you install the gauges? (mainly looking for if you are familiar with the wiring) or a shop? have you verified fuse(s)? do your dash panel lights come on with headlights and are adjustable? and one of the most simple, are the suggested lamps burnt out? there is a relay for the dome lights with the doors. Do you get a door ajar light when the doors are open? that would tell you the switches are working and the signal is at least being read. My hood light works most times, but every once in a while it doesn't come on.
Ya I was kind of short with the amount of info. Passengers side doors both lite the lite. I do have dash lites which are adjustable. Occasionally the rear drivers side door with make the interior lite lite up, but more times than not it won't. The gauges were not installed by me. I purchased the truck that way. The gauges did lite but very dim when I purchased the truck. The drivers side door never did lite the interior from the day I purchased it. I have replaced the hood bulb and with a test light do not get any power coming thru the wire. I would have thought that the power for the gauges would also power up the lite in the gauges, but seeing I didn't install them I know little about them. Hope this helps some as I'm lost. thanks for any input.
The gauge lights should have been tied into the dimmer at the dash. Your door switch sounds like it is just not working. Does you door ajar light work on the driver door. If not then it is prolly your switches. You can try spraying WD40 into the latching mech. and see if that frees up the switch. I got my doubts. Also check the wire going to the hood light before it get to the light socket. It should always be hot. The rocker switch in the socket may be stuck open. Although it seems like you have alot of problems I don't think any are related. Good luck and let us know what you find.
P.S.You may want to fill out your signature so we will know more about your truck.
Thx zx250. Ya the only problem is all the problems are on my side of the truck. I'm going out this afternoon and dig into it. I'll post the results if there is any when I get something to lite. thanks again. mick
If finally got around to finding the problems and 2 of the 3 are fixed. The hood lite had a bad connection at the socket and the gauges are missing bulbs. As for the door lite I'm still looking.
Do you ever get a door ajar light from the doors that aren't turning the interior lights on? Glad you were able to trace the other problems down. Electrical problems can turn into real nightmares sometimes.
no door ajar lites. i also sprayed the latches excessively with a WD40 like lube. next step i assume would be take door panel off and see if there is power to the switch? thanks for all the help zx, i am really stumped.
