I am in the process of rebuilding the E40D transmission on my F150 and need help finding out what is the best option for cleaning all the parts and case of the transmission. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions.
oakman1437, welcome to FTE. I have 3 trucks with an E4OD. I don't rebuild myself, I have it done. What you are going to use the truck for will dictate what you do in the rebuild. I would up grade everything. No sense doing it again later. I have the planet gears and the ring changed, and the sonnex kit put in. I also use an electronic systems eliminator, since mine are all automatic. I also get a heavy duty TC.
As far as cleaning the parts goes, I guess anything metal you could use kerosene. Be careful with anything else. As I said, I never torn one apart myself. If you do a search on E4OD you will get a lot of good info. Click on "search" on the top blue bar. Good luck with it. I'm sure someone else will be along with more info.
Thanks for the welcome and advice trike1946! Looks like the only other message I have received is a nice little "chewing out" for putting my thread in the wrong category. You seem to be the only one interested in replying to my question and I do appreciate it! The net is pretty big so I'm sure I'll find more help somewhere. Thanks again for the reply.
You might try the forum for the earlier F150s. Or you could even do a search in the pre power stroke diesels. They are always having problems with the E4ODs, myself included. After a lot of looking, I found this was the best site for Ford problems. I too posted in the wrong place in the beginning. Hang in there. You will get used to it. Really a great bunch or people here.
I just purchased an overhauled e40d for my F250 4X from phoenix remanufactured transmissions www.phoenixhardparts.com $950.00 how can you beat that for a deal?
last year I paid almost $400.00 just for the selonoid pack.
