electric Fans

HAs anyone ever used those 16" electric fans ?

And if so, Do they really do what they clame...

I seen some advertised saying something to the effect that you will increase HP by 17 ........

Seems fishey to me. But the electric fans would really free up some room.

Have'nt used them, but do have some info from recent reseach. The manufactures do claim the HP and mileage increase and the theory is correct about not having the parasitic use of power. I'm looking at a towing situ myself and some of the lower cfm units simply won't move enough air thru the rad for HD apps. Permacool has a dual set-up with 5900 cfm and their tech says it will handle towing as long as your not overgrossing the trucks limits. They're spendy pieces, but your application and use will determine wether it's worth while for you or not. Do the math.

Definately free up power. Obviously you have never towed anything up a hill and the fan decides to kick in? Long story short, you better get out and push the truck up the hill. Ok not that bad but does make a difference.

I'm with skrappy, the Taurus fans are the way to go, they are cheap and effective.

Will they move enough air for heavy towing? I do a good portion of towing and well I dont want a roasted engine.

Read a tech article I found thru this site about a guy installing one in his mustang. Problem with us truck guys and towing we need two fans as one just won't cut the mustard. The larger size of the Taurus fans doesn't allow two to be mounted in situ. The PermaCool set-up looks to be the best with its 5900 cfm but as I said earlier, at $500 it's a spendy unit indeed.

So is a minimum of 5500 cfm for towing? I can build me a setup for it just I need the cfm rating. I can even built a front and rear fan out of a taurus couldnt I? That could work wouldnt it?

I have a electric fan from a taurus in my pickup right now.I have had it in there for almost a year now and i haven't had any trouble overheating when towing or playing in the mud. I would recomend a larger alternator than the 60 amp that was stock cause my bat. seems to get a little drained if i have the lights and blower fan on and i'm just crawling around. Hope my 2 cents help.
