Ranger cat question:

Hey, I got a 1995 Ranger with a 2.3 and my front cat is smoking out of both ends and is loud and I was wondering instead of replacing the cat if I should just take it off and run a piece of straight pipe because I do not have the 80 bucks right now . Any suggestions?

I had a 1994 Ranger w/ the 2.3 that I did that to, it sounded awesome and ran alot better...I would recommend doing that and not even put the cat back on

Thanks for the info 1972FordCustom. What did you do, cut off the cat and replace with a piece of pipe and clamp or weld? Sounded and ran better eh? Thats cool.

Yeah, just replace it with some pipe, and you are fine. Made a big difference on my Dads Ranger too.

As for the sound, I thought it sounded like a reverberating wet fart. A nice Thrush turbo muffler to replace the stock muffler fixed that.

the way mine started out was I had the cat cut off, then put a glasspack where the muffler was and had that y'd into dual out the bumper w/ the little pencil style tips...way tooo loud, state trooper pulled me over and made me change it....it could be heard for about 2 or 3 miles....I had the gp cut off and put a super turbo in it's place...sounded alot better.....
