I have a 67 F250 with a single point distributor and a 390 FE. I pulled an electronic igntion (distributor and "brain") from a 76 F250 with a big block at the local junk yard for $15. A friend of mine seems to think I can rig this up to work in my truck. Is he right? He mentioned something about having it "re-curved" because the ignition was off a "smogged" truck and I may not be able to advance the timing far enough for my gas hog 390.
Any comments?
If anyone has done this conversion, let me know of any tricks.
I'm in the same boat. I went to the sight but the wire colors did not match the harness I have. The colors of the modules are also different. Can anyone help?
I am a big fan of MSD ignitions especally the 6 series. Quite a bit more expensive but very quick and easy to install. Connect the two wires from the coil to the MSD. Connect two wires from the MSD to the coil and then two wires to battery and ground.
It uses your points as a trigger instead of points. No gap or dwell to worry about.
I've got a 67 f250 w/ 390, and just installed a D.U.I. have one of these installed in my 67 stang for over five years w/o a problem! just a one wire hook up and that's it. easiest install ever. as soon as it dropped in, wired the plugs correctly and fired right up.
Stock .352, 2bbl... trying to be more fuel efficient, and get better performance. Just picked up the Pertronix Ignitor with high voltage coil, have the 7mm wires on order and installing Splitfire plugs... what is the best recommendation for a cap and rotor to hold up to the increased spark, or is stock ok?
Open to suggestions, thanks!
