What makes a "Highboy" a "Highboy"???

a highboy is called that due to the frame design. the F250 4 X 4 frame was a long narrow ladder frame that necessitated a high stance for all the components to clear each other and work the way they were designed to (tires don't hit the frame on turns etc...). hawkrod

I'm not Hawkrod but all F250 4x4's up to '77 1/2 were Highboys.

Highboy is just a term, and I think how much lift it took to get your butt up on the seat had something to do with it, too.

Didn't they also have a separated transfer case, using 3 drive shafts? this may have had something to do with the higher stance.

My 69 Highboy has a narrow frame and a divorced transfer case. It sits higher than my 95 PSD.



1969 Ford F-250 4X4, 390 bored .030 over, carter 4 barrel carb, Terminator mufflers, NP 435, NP 205 Transfer case, HD Dana 44 w/ discs up front and Dana 60 in the rear. 90% completly rebuilt from ground up.

1995 Ford F-250 4X4, Powerstroke Diesel. Supercab longbox. 70 hp chip, isspro pyrometer and boost guages. Other than that its stock. Plans: 4in exhaust, propane injection, cd player, and possible intercooler.
