ok now dont get all pirate 4x4 on me here...i have a simple question and im pretty sure i know the answer to it but im double checking. And yes im sure if i searched and spent countless hours of my time i could find the exact forum that has my answer...anyways heres my question.. i dont know how many of you have used sky-manufacturings shackle flips..but they say 78-97 for the years now i have a 76 frame that im using on a 66body build up and as far as i know most of the suspenion and driveline is the same for the early70's to the late 70's minus some steering and whatnot...but anyways sky wont give me an answer because they havent tried using the shackles on the 76...now im almost positive i have the 3" wide springs that are supposed to be used for this kit...i would look but my truck is an hour and a hlaf away at my parents house due to lack of storage from living in an appartment...so if anyone else has tried this gimme some info and it would be greatly appreciated...
thanx
Brian
Very easy fix. measure the width of the leaf springs. If it is the same width, it will work. it may not result in as much or possibly even more lift, but it will still work.
yea thats the general idea is to measure them...unfortunately i dotn have the time to head back to the rent's house in cali but im going to have my father measure them for me...i just thought it was odd, i was under the impression that all ford rears from 70's were 3" wide. I'm not really looking for the lift from them i want a bit more of articulation and i dont have the money for a spring pack, plus i hate blocks so it kinda levels everything out and i'll just get an addaleaf to level out the extra inch or so. Plus it wont be such a stiff ride
Hey thanx...yea i have the f100 76...that seems odd to me that the 3/4 and above have 2.5"s i would have figured that the heavier trucks would have been the wider springs....yea i really like the sky-man setup but they wouldnt really give me any info it mustve just been to cover their butt since they havent done it...no big deal but i figured it was worth looking into...thanx again
yeah, your f100 should definately have 3" springs. I didnt see spending the money for that kit though. I lifted my 76 f100 by just doing a shackle flip and an addaleaf in the back, pics are in the gallery. If it came down to it, a front hanger off a rear spring would do the exact same thing as the sky hanger, for much cheaper.
Raw, could you give me a rough estimate on what the gain is on flipping the stock shackle and mounting it to the front spring hanger in the rear? I want to know if I need to AAL or not when I go this route. Also, did you have to shim the axle back again due to the pinion change?
I did the shackle flip just like in Ivan's gallery. He helped me through it and all, but I ended up with only about 4" of lift. I am still using the stock shackles temporarily while im working on the truck, but the new ones will only give an inch of lift max. I am using lift leaves that are the same for your truck. 6" Skyjacker soft rides... They just slap them all on F150's-F350's according to their website. Anyways, I was planning on 6" and now I have to get creative in order to get 2 more inches...

when i flipped my stock mount like pictured in my gallery i got right about 2.5" of lift....you can tell i redrilled the mount and lowered it a bit, if you just flip it stock and dont lower the mount any you will get about 2"
